Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover, located at the notoriously congested Silk Board Junction, is approaching full completion, with the final ramp connecting HSR Layout to BTM Layout expected to open by December 2025.
The 5.5 km stretch, partially operational since November 2024, is designed to significantly ease traffic flow in one of the city’s busiest corridors. Once complete, the new ramp will enable seamless travel from HSR Layout to BTM Layout via Ragi Gudda, while also improving connectivity to Electronics City.
Despite the improved flow, traffic signals at the Silk Board junction will remain operational.
“Traffic will ease more once the ramp from the HSR Layout side to BTM Layout becomes operational. However, that alone will not eliminate the need for traffic signals at the junction,” a traffic department official stated.
To address challenges related to turning radius, the BMRCL opted for a steel girder design over traditional prestressed concrete, expediting structural adjustments and keeping the project on track for year-end completion.
