Vivo Gears Up for Mfg Might in India with Rs 3,000 Crore Facility

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is set to inaugurate one of the largest mobile phone manufacturing facilities in India next month. The state-of-the-art facility, located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, boasts an impressive annual capacity of 120 million devices. This major development comes with an investment of over Rs 3,000 crore, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion plans in India.

In addition to establishing the new unit, Vivo is actively seeking an Indian joint venture (JV) partner to manage its manufacturing operations. The company is currently in discussions with several potential stakeholders, aiming to solidify a partnership that will enhance its operational efficiency and local engagement.

The new manufacturing unit spans 170 acres and is set to rival Samsung's plant as one of the largest in the country. This expansion is expected to not only bolster Vivo's production capabilities but also contribute significantly to the local economy by creating jobs and stimulating technological growth in the region.

The Indian government’s focus on boosting local companies has spurred Chinese firms like Vivo to explore outsourcing manufacturing to Indian companies or forming joint ventures with local partners. Such strategic moves are anticipated to strengthen the manufacturing ecosystem in India, fostering greater collaboration and technological advancement.

Vivo's investment and expansion come at a time of increasing emphasis on local manufacturing and self-reliance in India. The establishment of this large-scale facility underscores the company’s commitment to the Indian market and its role in contributing to the country’s economic and industrial development.
