Wistron invests ₹1500 crore in laptop manufacturing.

The Karnataka government and Wistron (ICT Service Management Solutions) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a cutting-edge laptop manufacturing facility. In a significant investment commitment of Rs 1,500 crore by the Taiwan-based company, the project is poised to generate employment for approximately 3,000 individuals, as highlighted by Large and Medium Industries Minister, MB Patil. Present at the signing were senior officials from Wistron Corp and Gunjan Krishna, Director of the Department of Industries.

Wistron is in the process of securing 32 acres of land for the proposed venture, with the government actively considering suitable parcels in the Bengaluru region. The company has outlined plans to commence construction activities in July 2024, with laptop production slated to commence by January 2026. Embracing Industry 4.0 standards, the fully automated facility will manufacture laptops for various brands, with more than 50 percent of the production earmarked for export. Additionally, the unit will contribute to the production of IoT components and parts related to electric vehicles.

The Minister emphasized that this venture represents the pioneering laptop manufacturing unit in Karnataka, poised to drive innovation, create job opportunities, and position the state as a leader in the electronics manufacturing sector.
