Milking the Future: Inside Madhur Dairy’s New ₹128 Crore Plant

Amit Shah, Union Minister for Home and Cooperation, inaugurated the Madhur Dairy Unit-2 Automatic Milk Processing and Packaging Plant at Dashela in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on 17 May 2026.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, and other dignitaries. During the event, Shah said the new plant has been developed over 15 acres with an investment of nearly ₹128 crore. The facility currently has a milk processing capacity of 2.5 lakh litres per day, which is planned to be expanded to 5 lakh litres per day in the future.

The new dairy unit is expected to enhance milk processing and packaging capabilities, strengthen the cooperative dairy network, and improve income opportunities for milk producers. The project is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” and focuses on modernising the dairy cooperative ecosystem through advanced technology, quality control, and efficient infrastructure.

Established in 1971 with an initial milk procurement of 6,000 litres and a turnover of ₹7,000, Madhur Dairy has grown into a major dairy cooperative with an annual turnover of ₹628 crore and a widespread network for milk collection, processing, and distribution. The cooperative’s growth is seen as a strong example of the long-term success and sustainability of the cooperative model in India.
