Kerala's New Food Park: A Boost for Agri-Businesses

The Kerala government has granted administrative approval for setting up a KINFRA Food Processing Park at Kunnukara in Ernakulam district, under the state’s Mini Food Park scheme.

Spread across 15.31 hectares (approx. 37.82 acres) in Kunnukara village near Kalamassery, the project will be funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). Industries Minister P. Rajeeve highlighted the initiative as a key step toward strengthening the agri-allied sector and supporting the agricultural revival underway in the Kalamassery Assembly constituency.

As part of the Kalamassery Agri Mission, cultivation has expanded to new areas with crops like sugarcane and arrowroot. Five value-added agri products have already been introduced to the market, and the third edition of the Kalamassery Agri Fest is scheduled for August to further promote the mission.

The upcoming park will accommodate units focused on processing spices, coconut, fruits, dairy, cakes, and bakery products. Irrigation facilities have also been enhanced to support increased cultivation, and land acquisition will be fast-tracked in coordination with the district administration to ensure timely implementation.
