NMDC Steel Celebrates 2 Million Tonne Hot Metal Milestone

NMDC Steel (NSL) has reached a major operational milestone, producing over two million tonnes of hot metal in FY25 at its integrated steel plant in Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh. This achievement marks a remarkable 100 percent increase from the 966,468 tonnes produced in the previous financial year, which covered the plant’s first seven and a half months of operation following its commissioning on 15 August 2023.

Having already achieved 60 percent of its rated 3.3 MTPA capacity in its second operational year, NSL is on track to reach full capacity within the current financial year. This performance highlights the company’s effective operational planning and its strategic vision to establish itself as a key player in India’s industrial growth.

In FY25, NSL also successfully marketed over 1.45 million tonnes of Hot Rolled (HR) Coils and Sheets. March 2025 set a new company record with the highest-ever monthly dispatch of 229,874 tonnes of HR coils since the plant’s inception. This milestone represents a 63 percent increase over the previous record of 141,207 tonnes, set in February 2025.

A key factor in this success was the utilization of four liberalized special freight train operator (LSFTO) rakes, which transported approximately 40,000 tonnes of material during the month. Building on these logistics-driven improvements, NSL plans to expand its LSFTO rake capacity to further enhance dispatch efficiency, strengthen supply chain reliability, and better meet growing customer demand.
