Union Steel Minister H D Kumaraswamy inaugurated a state-of-the-art steel-making facility at SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 18 November 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s socio-economic development.
The minister officially launched the 'Caster-4 unit' at the Steel Melting Shop-2, enhancing the plant’s production capabilities. This expansion is part of SAIL’s ambitious plan to raise RSP’s capacity to nine million tonnes per annum (MTPA), more than doubling its current output. With an estimated investment of ₹30,000 crore, the upgrade is expected to strengthen supplies to key sectors, including defence, oil and gas, and automotive industries.
Accompanied by Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Kumaraswamy reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to supporting the growth and modernization of RSP.
