Vizag Gets a Green Edge: Ambuja Cements' Port Expansion

Ambuja Cements, a part of the Adani Group, is set to establish a state-of-the-art cement grinding unit within the Adani Gangavaram Port industrial estate in Visakhapatnam.

Spanning eight hectares of pre-designated industrial land, the project avoids the need for fresh land acquisition and aligns with the Adani Group’s strategy for sustainable, port-based industrial development with minimal environmental impact. The facility will adopt an eco-friendly model, using industrial byproducts such as slag and fly ash sourced from nearby steel and power plants.

Key raw materials, including clinker and gypsum, will be transported via low-emission rail and sea routes, reducing the plant’s overall carbon footprint. Classified under the Orange Category—indicative of low environmental impact—the unit will involve no fuel combustion or chemical processing.

The plant will feature advanced dust control systems, water conservation technologies, and operate with zero liquid discharge. In addition to supporting local economic development and strengthening Gangavaram Port’s logistics ecosystem, the project reinforces Ambuja’s national growth strategy and its net-zero commitment, as validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
