ADB's Triple Play: $800M for Power, Metro, and Skills

The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed loan agreements exceeding USD 800 million to advance key development initiatives in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.

A USD 500 million loan will support the Maharashtra Power Distribution Enhancement Programme, which focuses on modernising rural power infrastructure and expanding solar energy usage in agriculture. The initiative aims to supply daytime solar electricity to 9,00,000 agricultural consumers by 2028. In Madhya Pradesh, approximately USD 190.6 million has been allocated to the Indore Metro Rail Project to enhance urban mobility. Gujarat will receive USD 109.97 million for skills development programmes designed to improve job readiness in high-growth sectors such as logistics, automotive, IT, and renewable energy.

Additionally, a USD 1 million Technical Assistance grant has been approved for the SWIFT Project in Assam, aimed at strengthening wetland ecosystems and supporting fisheries development.
