APM Terminals has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to invest USD 1 billion in developing modern ports and terminals, marking a significant step toward enhancing India’s maritime infrastructure.
The initiative supports Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of transforming Andhra Pradesh into the "Logistics Hub of the East." The MoU outlines plans to construct state-of-the-art terminals, upgrade ports to international standards, and implement sustainable, low-emission technologies. A joint working committee comprising representatives from APM Terminals and Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) will be established by Q3 2025 to oversee execution.
APM Terminals, active in India since 2004, currently operates Gujarat Pipavav Port and Gateway Terminals India at JNPT. The proposed investment is expected to generate 8,000–10,000 jobs and drive industrial and logistics sector growth across the region.
Chief Minister Naidu has also committed to building a robust marine infrastructure network, including ports, fishing harbours, and landing centres every 50 km along the state’s 1,053 km coastline. Andhra Pradesh currently has five operational non-major ports, with four greenfield ports slated to become operational by 2026.
