Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has launched the guidelines and online portal for the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), a key initiative to boost India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
At the launch event, the Minister outlined the Government’s phased approach to building electronics manufacturing capabilities. He explained that India initially focused on assembling finished products to build scale and industry confidence, then transitioned to module-level manufacturing, followed by component production, and now aims to manufacture the raw materials that go into components.
He emphasized that finished goods make up 80–85% of the electronics value chain and lauded the significant progress India has made. Electronics production in the country has increased five-fold, while exports have grown more than six-fold, with export and production CAGRs exceeding 20% and 17%, respectively.
The ECMS will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, offering incentives to encourage efficiency, early participation, and timely compliance. This performance-oriented model is designed to create a competitive yet fair environment for all stakeholders.
