Jabil, a global leader in engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing solutions, is set to invest Rs 1,000 crore in a silicon photonics manufacturing facility in Gujarat. This new unit will focus on producing photonics transceivers—critical components for data communication in AI, telecommunications, IoT, and smart infrastructure.
In collaboration with the Gujarat government, Jabil will initially explore the development of a post-wafer fabrication silicon photonics facility with advanced co-packaged optics capabilities. The investment is expected to create 1,500 jobs. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing this initiative was signed at the Gujarat Semiconnect Summit in Gandhinagar.
Matt Crowley, Executive Vice President, Global Business Unit at Jabil, stated, “This MoU highlights our dedication to strengthening India’s silicon photonics capabilities and fostering the country’s photonics ecosystem. We are excited to work alongside the Gujarat government and key stakeholders to unlock the full potential of semiconductors in photonics.”
With over a decade of experience in the photonics sector, Jabil provides both prototyping and large-scale manufacturing services, enabling faster time to market for photonics solutions in telecommunications, data communications, and AI applications.
