Gujarat's Pipavav Port Kicks Off Major $400M Expansion Project

Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd (GPPL), in which A P M Terminals holds a 43.01% stake, has launched a major capacity expansion project featuring a new liquid jetty and supporting marine infrastructure.

The project includes the development of:

New LPG and liquid cargo berths, Additional container berths, Expanded storage yards and railway sidings, Deepened navigation channels

This Rs 3,320 crore investment is designed to enhance cargo diversification, increase operational efficiency, and stimulate industrial growth in the Pipavav region. The expansion also supports Gujarat’s broader infrastructure and logistics vision outlined during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

Engineering and marine works—covering construction, dredging, and reclamation—will be undertaken by L&T Geostructure and Van Oord India.

Once completed, the port’s annual capacity is expected to reach:

2.15 million TEUs (containers), 6 million tonnes (MT) of dry bulk, 6.4 MT of liquid cargo, 3,00,000 CEUs (car equivalent units) for Ro-Ro operations

GPPL has secured environmental clearance for the expansion as of June, following previous delays linked to market uncertainties and the pending concession extension beyond 2028, which remains critical for long-term project viability.

The expansion marks a significant step in transforming GPPL into a next-generation multi-cargo port, better positioned to serve growing domestic and international trade demands.
