In a major step forward for biomedical research, IIT Delhi has launched a state-of-the-art MRI research facility under its Institute of Eminence (IoE) initiative.
Housed within the Centre for Biomedical Engineering, the facility features a clinical-grade 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, making it the first of its kind among India’s premier engineering institutions. Unlike conventional hospital-based MRI systems, the centre is designed to support open innovation, fostering interdisciplinary research in medical imaging, AI integration, and image processing.
“This MRI research facility will help generate new knowledge at the intersection of science, engineering, and medicine, and strengthen our impact on healthcare,” said Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi.
Initially focused on non-clinical research using phantoms, the facility will expand to clinical studies following necessary regulatory approvals.
