Jharkhand Gets Green Light for Four New Medical Colleges

The Union government has approved the Jharkhand government’s proposal to establish four new medical colleges in the districts of Khunti, Jamtara, Dhanbad, and Giridih.

Under the plan, Khunti and Jamtara will each offer 50 MBBS seats, while Dhanbad and Giridih will have 100 seats each. The approval, announced by the Jharkhand Health Department on Tuesday, follows a detailed presentation by Ajoy Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), to the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) in New Delhi.

These medical colleges will be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the Central government providing 40% capital expenditure (capex) and 25% operational expenditure (opex) support. The initiative aims to strengthen medical education and healthcare infrastructure across the state, while also creating employment opportunities and addressing the shortage of specialist doctors in rural and semi-urban regions.
