The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved Used Water Management Projects worth ₹37.96 crore for Baramulla and ₹34.43 crore for Rajouri to strengthen urban sanitation and wastewater management infrastructure.
The projects have been sanctioned under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 CAPEX component and are aimed at ensuring scientific sewage treatment, reducing pollution in water bodies, and improving public health standards in the two regions.
The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the initiatives were prepared by the Housing and Urban Development Department and technically vetted by National Institute of Technology Srinagar. Both projects will utilise Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology, an advanced single-step biological treatment process designed for efficient sewage management.
The government plans to complete the wastewater treatment projects within 18 months, with the objective of creating sustainable and modern sewage treatment infrastructure in Baramulla and Rajouri.
