Mission Water: District Gears Up as Singur Levels Set to Drop

The district administration is preparing for possible drinking water shortages arising from proposed repair works at the Singur project by conducting a comprehensive district-wide survey.

Collector P. Pravinya said that eight tmcft of water will be released from the Singur reservoir, which currently has a storage of 16 tmcft. To assess the situation on the ground, special teams comprising officials from the Rural Water Supply, Mission Bhagiratha, and Panchayat Raj departments have been formed to review existing water infrastructure and identify vulnerable areas.

The survey will be carried out from February 1 to 20, with the objective of addressing potential shortages well in advance. Emphasising preventive measures, the Collector directed officials to repair non-functional borewells and drill new ones in areas facing acute scarcity, particularly in tribal regions and locations prone to summer stress.

“While Mission Bhagiratha has resolved many drinking water issues, the decline in Singur’s water level could pose fresh challenges,” she said, calling for close coordination among all departments to ensure timely action and prevent inconvenience to the public. Teams are already being constituted to commence the survey.
