Restoring Mithi: A New Breath of Fresh Air for Mumbai

Adani Navbharat Developers Private Limited (ANDPL), in tandem with the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP), is set to rejuvenate the Mithi River and construct a 3.3-kilometer waterfront promenade extending from the Matunga culvert.

Designed to enhance Mumbai’s urban environment, the riverfront development will serve as a vibrant public recreational zone complete with cafes and viewing decks. A central feature of the plan is a 15-meter-wide, pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly "Green Spine" that directly connects Dharavi’s Central Park to the riverfront.

To bolster the local ecosystem, the promenade will be lined with native trees, pollution-absorbing flora, bioswales, and permeable paving aimed at improving stormwater management and groundwater recharge. Additionally, to compensate for the BMC-approved removal of 1,693 trees in Dharavi—roughly half of which will be transplanted—the DRP will launch a extensive tree plantation initiative across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
