Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh is set to receive a ₹4,160 crore drinking water project under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The project aims to provide household tap connections to rural families and address long-standing drinking water shortages in the region. It will cover 2,725 habitations across seven constituencies and is expected to benefit around 18.26 lakh people. To ensure a reliable and safe water supply, authorities will source water from four major irrigation projects: the Brahmam Sagar Reservoir, Mylavaram Reservoir, Gandikota Project, and Telugu Ganga Subsidy Reservoir-1, each serving different parts of the district.
The initiative will involve the development of water supply infrastructure, including pipelines and distribution networks, to deliver sustainable drinking water access to rural villages. The project is expected to significantly improve living conditions and provide a long-term solution to water scarcity in the district.
Under the plan, the Brahmam Sagar Reservoir component alone will supply drinking water to about 4,15,427 people across 664 habitations in B Koduru, Porumamilla, Kalasapadu, Mydukur, and nearby mandals. This segment of the project is estimated to cost ₹878.37 crore.
