The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has accelerated the development of its fifth construction-and-demolition (C&D) waste processing plant, located at Tehkhand.
The facility will handle the collection, transportation, processing, and disposal of C&D waste generated from the central and south zones of Delhi. Once operational, the plant will have an initial processing capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day, which is planned to be scaled up to 2,000 tonnes per day within two years.
Designed as a compact and fully computerised facility, the plant will feature an integrated processing system, including a log washer for both coarse and fine aggregates. The processed output will comply with all prescribed quality standards and specifications. The project scope also includes GPS-enabled vehicles for waste transportation, digital weighbridges, and enhanced safety systems.
Delhi currently operates four C&D waste processing plants. With the commissioning of the Tehkhand facility, the MCD aims to increase the city’s total C&D waste processing capacity to approximately 5,500–6,000 tonnes per day.
