The Big Fix: GMDA's Basai-Sector 51 Pipeline Ready to Go Live

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to connect a 1,600 mm pipeline from Basai to the Sector 51 boosting station this week, effectively doubling its water supply capacity.

The new pipeline is designed to ease the city's persistent water shortages by reducing dependence on the existing 1,000 mm line from the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant. At present, Sector 51 receives around 100–120 million liters per day (MLD) of treated water, against a demand of 150–170 MLD. Once integrated, the new line will enhance the boosting station’s capacity to 300 MLD, allowing for more efficient water flow management. This upgrade is expected to significantly reduce shortages, particularly during peak demand periods.

“We expect the new line will greatly improve water distribution and meet the growing demand in the area,” said a GMDA official.
