The Wait is Almost Over: Vizhinjam's EXIM Cargo Era Begins in April

Gateway (EXIM) cargo operations at Vizhinjam International Seaport (VISL) are expected to begin in April, with roadway traffic likely commencing before April 15, 2025.

While an exact date has not been confirmed, officials have stated that shipping liner MSC will oversee major cargo operations. Currently, the port is limited to transshipment activities.

The 1.7-km road connecting the port to NH-66, constructed by the Adani Group, is nearing completion, with only 600 meters of work remaining. The project is expected to be finished by the end of March.

The port user building, which will house Customs officers and officials from Adani Vizhinjam Port and VISL, has been completed. A scanner has also been installed near the port gateway for container inspections.

With construction progressing around the clock, adjustments are being made to the road height to align with two existing bridges. Although NHAI has not approved cutting the NH-66 median, container trucks will use service roads for highway access.

The new four-lane road aims to ease congestion, particularly with the Mukkola-Karode road already operational. It will also provide access to the proposed outer ring road.
