The Maharashtra Cabinet has greenlit a massive ₹6,477.88 crore financial allocation for the fifth revised administrative approval of Phase II of the Jayakwadi irrigation project. Focused heavily on the Marathwada region, this initiative aims to transform agricultural prospects across Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar, Beed, Parbhani, and Nanded by bringing 1.31 lakh hectares of land under irrigation.
While Phase I successfully established the primary Jayakwadi Dam and the Paithan Left Canal, Phase II targets critical expansion. This includes the construction of the 148-km Majalgaon Right Canal, uplift schemes in Majalgaon and Salimba, new low- and high-level dams at Shiras Marg and Roshanpuri, and six strategic on-road reservoirs. By bolstering the Godavari Valley's water network, the project is set to provide lasting relief to one of the state's most drought-prone areas.
