Drip by Drip: Saving India’s Water with Netafim & Amazon

Orbia Advance Corporation’s precision agriculture business Netafim has partnered with Amazon India to launch two major water stewardship initiatives aimed at saving nearly 325 million litres of water annually through advanced drip irrigation systems.

The projects will cover about 80 hectares in the western agricultural belt of Bengaluru and 40 hectares in the northern agricultural belt of Hyderabad, benefiting more than 110 independent farms. In Bengaluru, farms cultivating gourd and tomato crops will shift from traditional flood irrigation to drip systems, supporting around 70 farmers. In Hyderabad, about 40 hectares of maize and vegetable farms will adopt drip irrigation, benefiting nearly 40 farmers.

The initiative supports Amazon’s commitment to become water positive in India by 2027, meaning the company aims to return more water to communities than it consumes in its operations.

By improving irrigation efficiency, the programme is expected to sustain crop productivity, reduce water stress in Karnataka and Telangana, and promote more sustainable agricultural practices across these regions.
