Engineers India Limited (EIL) has commenced site activities for its compressed biogas (CBG) plant at the MIDC Halkarni Industrial Area in Kolhapur, marking a key milestone in support of India’s renewable energy and clean fuel initiatives.
The foundation stone for the self-funded project was laid by Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, in the presence of EIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Ms Vartika Shukla, along with senior officials. The plant will have a production capacity of five tonnes per day (TPD) of CBG and will process approximately 125 TPD of press mud sourced from nearby sugar mills using advanced bio-methanation technology.
The generated biogas will be supplied to HP Oil Gas Private Limited (HPOIL) for distribution as a clean fuel through HPCL retail outlets, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and increased adoption of renewable fuels. In addition, the facility will produce fermented organic manure (FOM) and liquid fermented organic manure (LFOM), supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
The project aligns with national initiatives such as SATAT and Atmanirbhar Bharat, reinforcing India’s waste-to-energy, clean mobility, and energy self-reliance objectives.
