JSW Energy Kicks Off 240 MW Hydro Project in Chamba

JSW Energy has commissioned the first 80 MW unit of its 240 MW (3×80 MW) Kutehr Hydroelectric Power Plant in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.

Power generation from the first unit has begun dispatch to the Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC). The second 80 MW unit has been synchronised with the grid and is currently undergoing trial operations, with the final unit expected to follow shortly.

The project is supported by a 35-year long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with HPPC for the entire 240 MW at a levelized ceiling tariff of ₹4.50 per kWh, with provisions for extension.

Electricity from the Kutehr project will be supplied to Haryana’s distribution utilities — Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).

With this commissioning, JSW Energy’s installed hydro capacity increases to 1,471 MW, alongside 2,157 MW of solar and 3,562 MW of wind. Renewables now account for 56% of the company’s total energy portfolio, reinforcing its position as a leading player in India’s transition to clean energy.
