Oil India Strikes Gas in Rajasthan’s Dandewala Field

Oil India Limited has reported a modest yet strategically important natural gas discovery in its nominated Dandewala Field in Rajasthan, marking a positive step in the company’s ongoing exploration programme.

The exploration well recorded an average gas inflow of nearly 25,000 standard cubic metres per day (SCMD) from depths of around 950 metres and deeper, indicating encouraging reservoir quality and production potential.

The company stated that this is the first confirmed gas occurrence in the shallower Sanu Formation within the Dandewala Field. The discovery opens up a new exploration horizon and reinforces Oil India’s strategy of reassessing previously overlooked subsurface prospects through targeted technical studies and a “missed opportunities” approach.

Initial assessments based on structural interpretation, petrophysical evaluation, and subsurface analysis estimate gas-in-place resources at about 75 million standard cubic metres (MMSCM). The discovery is expected to enhance the field’s overall prospectivity and support future appraisal and development efforts aimed at increasing resource recovery and production capacity.

According to Oil India, the find strengthens its exploration portfolio and lays the groundwork for further technical evaluation and possible expansion of gas production from the region.
