Prayagraj Pumps Up: 250km of New Pipeline to Fuel 3 Lakh Homes

Prayagraj is set to significantly expand its piped natural gas (PNG) network, with plans to lay over 200 km of new pipeline in the next two years to connect approximately 3 lakh households.

Indian Oil-Adani Gas will lead the expansion, with around 130 km of pipeline to be laid in the current financial year, followed by an additional 120 km in the next phase. The initiative comes amid rising LPG prices and periodic supply concerns, positioning PNG as a more reliable and cost-effective alternative for domestic fuel.

So far, nearly 800 km of PNG pipeline has been laid across the district, including about 600 km in urban areas. Despite this progress, LPG continues to dominate, with over 14.79 lakh consumers in the city.

According to Pankaj Kumar, Associate Manager at Indian Oil-Adani Gas, efforts are underway to extend PNG access to all parts of the city. He noted that while the first phase saw 800 km of pipeline installation, the second phase aims to ensure availability across every street and neighbourhood.
