Renefuels, GAIL & IGL Join Forces to Inject Biogas into City Gas Networks

Renefuels Energy Solutions has entered into a tripartite agreement with GAIL and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) under the Compressed Biogas - City Gas Distribution (CBG-CGD) Synchronisation Scheme.
The agreement, signed at GAIL’s office in Lucknow, marks a significant milestone in integrating compressed biogas into India’s urban gas infrastructure—advancing the country’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Under this collaboration, Renefuels Energy will produce 3 tonnes per day (TPD) of compressed biogas (CBG), with GAIL ensuring an efficient and reliable supply chain. IGL will be responsible for the transportation and integration of the CBG into its City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.

The CBG production facility, currently under construction in Vill Bhopa, Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), is designed to generate 8,000 cubic meters of raw biogas daily. This will be upgraded to yield 3 TPD of purified CBG. The initiative is a strategic boost to India’s biogas sector, supporting a decentralised, cleaner, and more efficient energy future.

CEID Consultants and Engineering has been appointed as the EPC partner for the project, overseeing its design, procurement, and construction while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

The signing ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including Anup Maheshwari from CEID Consultants, A.K. Verma (Deputy General Manager, GAIL), executives from IGL, and directors from Renefuels Energy—highlighting the importance of this collaboration in driving India’s green energy roadmap forward.
