Polaris Smart Metering, a leading provider of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) services, is set to deploy 10 million smart electricity meters across India under the government’s nationwide power distribution modernisation initiative.
The large-scale rollout aims to reduce power losses, enhance supply reliability, and enable real-time monitoring of electricity consumption. Through smart metering, utilities will gain actionable insights to detect power theft, optimize energy usage, and strengthen grid stability — a crucial step as India rapidly expands its renewable energy capacity.
Currently commanding about 10% of India’s smart metering market, Polaris aims to double its market share within the next three to five years. The company’s prior success in regions such as Ladakh and Kargil, where smart meter deployment significantly cut transmission and distribution losses, underscores the transformative potential of digital metering in reshaping India’s power infrastructure.
