APEPDCL to Procure Power from 4 New Waste-to-Energy Plants

The Andhra Pradesh government has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for four waste-to-energy (WtE) projects across major municipal regions, marking a significant step toward strengthening solid waste management and expanding renewable energy capacity in the state.

The agreements were finalised in the presence of the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, underscoring the government’s commitment to scientific waste processing and cleaner urban sanitation. The initiative focuses on converting municipal solid waste into renewable energy, thereby supporting the state’s green energy transition.

Under the PPAs, electricity generated from the WtE plants at Nellore, Kadapa, and Kurnool will be procured by the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd (APEPDCL). Power from the Kakinada plant will also be purchased by the same distribution utility.

The projects, being developed by Jindal and Antony Lara, are designed to process several hundred tonnes of waste per day, significantly improving waste management practices in the respective urban regions. Commenting on the initiative, Minister Narayana said that the projects will enhance urban sanitation while simultaneously contributing to the generation of clean, renewable energy for the state.
