Mumbai-based RIR Power Electronics Ltd has announced the successful development of India’s first indigenously manufactured 25 kilovolt (kV)–120 kiloampere (kA) capacitor discharge high-voltage thyristor switch, designed for advanced pulse power applications.
The system is built around a 125 mm silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) capable of blocking voltages of up to 8 kV—marking a significant milestone in domestic development of such high-end components. To achieve the required high-voltage capability for controlling extremely high current pulses, multiple SCR units have been connected in series.
The company added that the product has been successfully tested and qualified at its high-voltage laboratory at its manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat.
