NTPC is nearing the conclusion of power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the 2,400 MW capacity expansion at its Ramagundam project in Telangana. While the state of Telangana has committed to purchasing 800 MW, other states such as Karnataka, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh have also expressed interest in procuring power from the expanded capacity.
Karnataka plans to purchase 600 MW, Punjab 400 MW, and Andhra Pradesh 1,000 MW, compensating for Telangana’s reduced share. Once completed, the Ramagundam thermal plant, which was originally allocated under the AP Reorganisation Act, will have a total capacity of 4,000 MW. Phase-I, which has already commissioned 1,600 MW, is followed by an additional 2,400 MW that will be developed once the PPAs are finalized.
In addition, NTPC has entered into a joint venture with the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh to develop a renewable energy project through NTPC Green Energy.
