Patratu Unit-2 Goes Live: NTPC Group Capacity Nears 91,000 MW!

NTPC has declared the commercial operation of Unit-2 of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) Phase-1 in Jharkhand, adding 800 MW to the country's power generation capacity.

The unit has been commissioned by Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (PVUNL), an NTPC subsidiary, and became operational on June 25, 2026. With the addition of this unit, NTPC Group's installed power generation capacity has increased to 90,857 MW, while its commercial operating capacity has reached 89,777 MW.

Patratu STPP Phase-1 is being developed with a total planned capacity of 2,400 MW through three supercritical units of 800 MW each. The commissioning of the second unit marks a key milestone in the project's development and is expected to improve power availability and strengthen grid stability in the region.

NTPC continues to expand its generation portfolio across thermal, hydroelectric, renewable, and emerging clean energy technologies, supporting India's growing electricity requirements and long-term energy security objectives.
