PGCIL Taps GE Vernova for Critical 1,000 MW Grid Upgrade

GE Vernova T&D India has received a letter of award (LoA) from Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for the refurbishment of the 2×500 MW HVDC Chandrapur back-to-back link that connects Northern and Southern India.

The scope of work includes upgrading the HVDC thyristor valves, along with the associated control and protection systems. The multi-year project will cover complete design, supply, and execution activities. The refurbishment is intended to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and overall performance of this critical HVDC link within India’s power transmission network.

The order highlights GE Vernova T&D India’s expanding role in the modernisation of the country’s energy infrastructure and reinforces its technical expertise in delivering large-scale high-voltage direct current projects that improve grid stability and transmission capacity.
