REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) has relaunched the bidding process for the interstate transmission project under the Shongtong Power Transmission scheme. The project is critical for evacuating power from Himachal Pradesh’s Tidong (150 MW) and Shongtong Karcham (450 MW) hydropower projects, both scheduled for commissioning by July 2026.
The initial tender, floated in June 2023, was annulled in September 2024, despite PGCIL emerging as the L1 bidder among three shortlisted participants. The cancellation was attributed to delays that risked missing the commissioning deadline.
Under the revised scope, the project will include:
A 2×315 MVA, 400/220kV GIS pooling station at Jhangi, A 400kV double-circuit transmission line connecting to the Wangtoo substation, Integration with the Shongtong Karcham hydroelectric project
To mitigate evacuation delays, HPPTCL will implement an interim LILO (Line-In Line-Out) arrangement. The eventual project developer will contribute ₹79.48 crore towards the cost of this shared infrastructure.
Bid submissions close on 06 October 2025, and the selected developer will have 30 months from SPV transfer to complete the project.
