SCCL & Odisha Join Forces for a 4,900 MW Energy Revolution

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha on December 18 to develop large-scale thermal and green energy projects in the state.

The proposed initiatives will have a combined capacity of 4,900 MW, significantly enhancing Odisha’s power generation capacity. SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram said the company plans to establish a 3×800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant near the Naini coal block. The plant will function as a captive facility, utilizing coal sourced directly from the block to ensure efficient and reliable power generation.

Alongside thermal power development, SCCL has also proposed 2,500 MW of renewable energy projects in Odisha. These include 1,000 MW of solar power, 500 MW of floating solar capacity, and 500 MW each of pumped storage and wind power projects. The initiative underscores SCCL’s commitment to balancing energy security with sustainable development.
