The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, reached a significant milestone on 15 December 2025 with the production of its 15,000th passenger coach.
Established in 2007, MCF has emerged as one of India’s most advanced passenger coach manufacturing units, with an annual production capacity of 1,000 coaches. Built at a cost of ₹3,192 crore, the facility is located around three kilometres from Lalganj on the Kanpur–Raebareli Road. Coach production commenced with 140 units in 2014–15 and scaled up steadily to a record output of 2,025 coaches in 2024–25.
MCF manufactures a wide range of rolling stock, including Humsafar, Tejas, Antyodaya, and MEMU coaches. Of the 15,000 coaches produced so far, 7,000 are air-conditioned while 8,000 are non-air-conditioned.
In the current financial year alone, the factory has already produced 1,310 coaches, underscoring its expanding manufacturing capabilities and its vital role in strengthening India’s rail infrastructure.
