The Ministry of Railways has approved the upgradation of the electric traction system in two key railway sections — Medchal–Mudkhed (225 km) and Mahbubnagar–Dhone (184 km).
The projects, costing ₹193.26 crore and ₹122.81 crore respectively, aim to enhance the traction capacity from the existing 1×25 kV system to a more efficient 2×25 kV configuration. The upgrades will involve modifications to circuit breakers and switching stations, along with the installation of additional conductors to strengthen the power network.
These sections, forming a vital link between Northern and Southern India via Hyderabad, will benefit from improved operational efficiency, reduced voltage drops, and enhanced power stability. The upgrade is expected to facilitate smoother and faster movement of both passenger and freight trains.
Spanning parts of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, the initiative forms a crucial component of the broader Manmad–Mudkhed–Dhone project, designed to ensure seamless and reliable railway operations across the region.
