New Rail Hubs for Mumbai: Parel Terminus & LTT Expansion

Mumbai’s railway network is set for major upgrades with the planned expansion of the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and the development of a new terminus at Parel.

Both long-pending projects have moved forward following approval from the Union Railway Ministry’s Project Evaluation Committee (PEC). After clearance from the Railway Board, tenders will be issued, with construction expected to begin within the current financial year. LTT—one of the city’s busiest stations, handling around 70,000 passengers daily—will be expanded with three to four additional platforms, enabling up to 10 more long-distance trains and helping ease chronic congestion.

The proposed Parel terminus is expected to function as an auxiliary hub, reducing the load on Dadar and CSMT stations. “Parel will be an additional hub for the city, helping to decongest these stations,” said Madhu Kotian, President of the Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh.
