PM Approves Mega High-Speed Rail for South India

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially approved the proposed Southern Bullet Train Corridor. The high-speed rail network will connect Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Amaravati, and Chennai, significantly boosting regional infrastructure and intercity mobility.

Speaking after flagging off the Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper train, the Minister highlighted the drastic reduction in travel times: the Bengaluru–Chennai journey will take approximately 73 minutes, while travel between Bengaluru and Hyderabad will take roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes. The corridor aims to seamlessly link these key commercial, technology, and administrative centers across southern India.
