Raipur Kalan Rail Under Bridge: Finally on Track!

The long-awaited rail under bridge (RUB) project at Raipur Kalan, located on the Chandigarh-Ambala railway line, has finally made progress. The Chandigarh administration has issued a formal notification to acquire 0.74 acre of land in Raipur Kalan, following approval from the Punjab government for land acquisition on its side.

Originally proposed in 2017, the RUB is intended to ease traffic congestion for residents of Harmilap Nagar, Baltana, and surrounding areas, who regularly face delays at the frequently closed railway crossing. The project had been stalled for nearly a decade due to land acquisition challenges.

Officials confirmed that the land acquisition notification has been issued under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. A Social Impact Assessment (SIA) study found that while no displacement will occur, two families in Raipur Kalan will lose portions of their agricultural land.

The sub-divisional magistrate (Central) has been appointed as the administrator for rehabilitation and resettlement. “The Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared back in 2017… now, finally, it seems the project will move ahead,” said Usha Rani, Municipal Councillor from Harmilap Nagar.
