The Future of Mumbai Local: 238 AC EMU Rakes on Fast Track

The Ministry of Railways has prioritized the procurement and simultaneous manufacturing of 238 AC EMU rakes across three production facilities, including ICF Chennai, to secure timely rolling stock availability for Mumbai's suburban railway network.

Approved by the Railway Board based on established RDSO and ICF standards, this initiative operates under the Rs 22,000 crore Mumbai Urban Transport Project. Alongside new corridors, additional tracks, and 15-coach platform extensions, the synchronized production program is designed to substantially strengthen the network's long-term passenger capacity.
