The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed the construction of a ₹345-crore six-lane flyover connecting the junctions of Mailardevpally, Shamshabad, and Katedan in Hyderabad. The planned structure will run nearly parallel to the proposed metro rail corridor linking the city to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Officials said the bi-directional flyover will be developed under the Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure (HCITI) initiative and is intended to improve traffic flow across the busy junctions. The project is expected to benefit airport-bound passengers as well as commuters travelling along the national highway, helping them bypass heavy congestion in the area.
The proposal has also revived public calls for a dedicated rail connection to the airport, with stakeholders stressing the need for integrated transport systems that combine road and rail infrastructure to reduce travel time and improve urban mobility.
