Flyover Fix: BDA Takes Aim at Hebbal Bottleneck

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has proposed the construction of a new flyover from Nagawara, connecting directly to the national highway leading to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The move is aimed at easing persistent traffic congestion at the Hebbal Flyover junction, where delays have continued due to the long-pending addition of a new ramp.

The BDA board has approved the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed flyover. The project is expected to resolve traffic bottlenecks caused by the convergence of vehicles from Nagawara, Tumakuru Road, KIA, and Mehkri Circle, all using the same underpass beneath the existing Hebbal Flyover.

As part of the plan, BDA is also examining the possibility of repurposing 11 large pillars constructed in 2019 for an earlier ramp project that was shelved following objections from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL). Approximately ₹25 crore had already been spent on the pillar installation, located within the tree park at the junction.

The proposed flyover is expected to streamline traffic flow, reduce travel time toward the airport, and improve overall connectivity in North Bengaluru.
