On July 13, 2026, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh (Defence) and Nitin Gadkari (Road Transport and Highways), alongside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, inaugurated the Rs 4,200 crore Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway in Unnao. Developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the six-lane National Expressway-6 (NE-6)—which can expand to eight lanes—is a high-speed, access-controlled corridor integrated with an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). Beyond slashing travel times between Lucknow and Kanpur, the expressway is poised to boost daily commutes, local trade, warehousing, logistics, and industrial-residential development along the corridor. Following the ceremony, Gadkari and Adityanath held a progress review meeting on various National Highway projects across Uttar Pradesh. Official data highlights that since 2014, over 10,204 km of highway projects have been awarded in the state, with 9,329 km completed at an investment of approximately Rs 1.94 lakh crore.
