In a major boost to Mumbai’s infrastructure development, the Union Government has officially transferred 53.174 acres of salt pan land to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on a 99-year lease valued at ₹12.9 crore, facilitating the construction of the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road (DBLR).
The lease was formalised following a notice issued by the Salt Commissioner, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, earlier this year. The land has been designated exclusively for the DBLR project and is non-transferable to any third party. Additionally, the BMC will bear full responsibility for any legal disputes or compensation claims arising in connection with the land.
This development comes nearly two years after BMC awarded the construction contract for the DBLR. Once completed—in an estimated three years—the link road is expected to drastically cut travel time between Nariman Point and Mira Bhayandar, easing congestion and enhancing road connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The DBLR project marks a key step in transforming the city’s east-west connectivity and advancing long-term urban mobility goals.
