The Andhra Pradesh government is accelerating efforts to develop a robust road network connecting Visakhapatnam with the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, as the project nears operational readiness.
The greenfield airport, being developed by GMR Group, is expected to commence operations by August this year. Earlier in January, an Air India flight from Delhi successfully completed its maiden trial landing at Bhogapuram, marking a key milestone in the project’s progress.
According to the state’s Minister for Roads and Buildings, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an elevated expressway from Anandapuram is nearing completion. In parallel, work on major arterial roads linking the port city to the airport is already underway. Located approximately 60 km from Visakhapatnam, improved connectivity to Bhogapuram is expected to significantly enhance access to the upcoming aviation hub.
