In a major push toward renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to solarise 2.93 lakh agricultural pump sets by March 2026. The initiative aims to install approximately 1,163 MW of solar capacity, significantly transforming the state's energy landscape.
The plan was unveiled by Chief Secretary and Energy Secretary K. Vijayanand during the 4th Collectors’ Conference. Tenders have already been floated, and land allocation is underway to ensure timely implementation.
In parallel, the state has also issued tenders for 1,198 MW of rooftop solar systems, targeting six lakh SC and ST households. Pilot installations in Tirupati and Chittoor have demonstrated encouraging results, paving the way for broader adoption.
These efforts are part of a larger strategy to strengthen the power sector under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which also includes initiatives for smart metering, feeder segregation, and loss reduction. With power demand surging—particularly in Tirupati, now the state’s highest power-consuming district—the government continues to provide subsidised electricity to farmers and small enterprises, balancing economic growth with clean energy goals.
