Tata Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Assam government to develop 5 GW of renewable and clean energy projects, including solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage, with an investment of Rs 30,000 crore over the next five years. The government will support the initiative by facilitating the allocation of around 20,000 acres of land and assisting with infrastructure development to ensure smooth transmission and connectivity.
The collaboration also includes identifying land for Group Captive sites, which will help industries and tea gardens access clean energy. Assam has pledged to provide single-window clearances, financial incentives, and partner with research institutions to drive innovation in the renewable energy sector. Additionally, skill development programs will be introduced to create a skilled workforce for the industry.
In a related development, Tata Power Renewable Energy has signed an MoU with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to boost renewable energy adoption and improve energy efficiency. The agreement focuses on expanding rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY) and creating 3,000 direct job opportunities, which will further support Assam’s clean energy transition and foster economic growth.
